We get to know a lot of kids as experienced pediatricians in Eugene, Oregon, and we're always on the look-out for GREAT things to do, and all within a half-day drive! The Oregon side also includes a fish hatchery with views of salmon and sturgeon.

Mount Pisgah Arboretum is a 209-acre living tree museum. Its riverside trails, quiet paths through evergreen forests, water garden teeming with life, bright wildflower meadows, and open views across oak savannas delight all ages. Located within Lane County's Howard Buford Recreation Area, the Arboretum lies between the Coast Fork of the Willamette River and the slopes of Mount Pisgah.

Plummeting 620 feet from its origins on Larch Mountain, Multnomah Falls is the second highest year-round waterfall in the United States. Nearly two million visitors a year come to see this ancient waterfall.

Fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain, the flow over the falls varies, usually it's highest during winter and spring. Be sure to check out some of the other great waterfalls close by, and stop at the incredibly scenic Vista House, with its awesome views of the Columbia River Gorge!

A great place for hands-on science education for kids AND adults, just two hours' drive North in Portland, Oregon.

Just under two hours' drive from Eugene-Springfield, the Oregon Coast Aquarium is a gem located on the Oregon Coast in Newport. Visit the giant Pacific octopus, the walk-through shark exhibit, the sea otters, and much more, including a fantastic touch pool for the kids! And there's lots more to see and do while in Newport, so make a day, or even a weekend, of it!

Explore amazing water features, the Conifer garden, garden art, wetlands, the Rediscovery Forest, a playful garden just for kids, the 400-year-old Signature Oak and the Gordon House, the only house in Oregon designed by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Discover how easy it is to relax and be dazzled at The Oregon Garden, located on 80 acres in Historic Silverton.

The Oregon Horse Center, one of the finest Horse Show and Boarding facilities in the Pacific Northwest, is located on 45 acres in the beautiful Willamette Valley. The Oregon Horse Center provides more than 185,000 square feet of interconnected covered space for equestrian activities, boarding and much more!

On the campus of the University of Oregon, this museum will surprise you and your kids in its interest and exhibits!

Visit historic Ashland, just 2 hours and 45 minutes south of Eugene-Springfield, a fun and kid-friendly town! Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at beautiful Lithia Park. And spend a night so that you and your kids can take in a Shakespearean performance at Ashland's Elizabethean theater, an experience they'll never forget!

Stay in a yurt! Go horseback riding! Stay near the beach! Go camping and hiking! We should never forget the wealth of outdoor experiences we have in Oregon, and the Oregon State Parks system is one of the best ways to enjoy that wealth.

Sitting in downtown Portland, surrounded by theaters, museums and wonderful 12-block park, the Portland Art Museum is the center of discovery. From exhibits featuring Egypt to a sculpture from Pablo Picasso, from modern to Pacific Rim, there is something that will catch your eye and imagination.

The museum, the seventh oldest in the United States and oldest on the West Coast, spans two buildings, numerous eras and is in the cultural center of the Rose City.

Where else can you find a fitness room, indoor dodgeball and kickball leagues, rock climbing, basketball, volleyball, batting cages, bowling and more? Almost every kid can find something here to get them and keep them active!

Rose Children's Theatre is a nonprofit community organization providing a variety of theatre opportunities, including acting classes and internships, for youth, their families, and adults. Help to support this great local organization!

Opening again for 2009 on April 4th, the Eugene Saturday Market is great fun for kids and families, with tons of interesting booths and foods, and a farmer's market where your kids can pick out their own fresh fruits and vegetables (and even plant starts to grow their own garden!).

The Science Factory Children's Museum & Planetarium is a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers and the Northwest Association of Youth Museums. The museum is 10,000 square feet including the planetarium, classroom, computer laboratory, exhibit hall and meeting space.
